Benefits of Basketball
Basketball is undeniably one of
the world’s most popular team sports. It is played even in the remotest areas.
In the park or in the playground, hustling in the school gym with your friends
during lunch breaks and dismissal. While you develop your skills, basketball
will also help you develop your personality on and off the court, and learn the
value of fair play, cooperation and camaderie.
Benefits of Football
Playing organized football takes
discipline, physical strength, a commitment to improve and plenty of hard work
in sometimes severe weather conditions. Football can be a dangerous game that
can lead to injuries. However, the game also offers many benefits that can lead
to immediate and long-term rewards.
Work Ethic
Even though teams play only one game weekly, they practice five days a week. That represents a major commitment to attend practice every day and work hard at that practice to improve your skill level and learn the plays. The hard work can begin on a 95-degree day in summer training camp and may continue until there is snow on the ground in November or December. A player quickly learns that if he doesn't work as hard as he can, he is letting his teammates and coaches down in addition to himself. On the other hand, working hard can bring team and individual honors. Referred to as work ethic, a player can take this with him long after his playing days are over.
Teamwork
Teamwork goes hand in hand with
work ethic. In football, nearly every player's success depends on someone else
doing his job. A quarterback may throw for three touchdowns and 300 yards, but
he wouldn't be able to complete one pass if his offensive line didn't block for
him and his receivers didn't get open or catch the ball. The fastest running
back couldn't run for 50 yards and a touchdown if the offensive line didn't
block the defensive line and the linebackers. The field goal kicker couldn't
kick a game-winning field goal if the center didn't make a good snap and the
holder didn't catch the ball and place it on the ground for him.
Benefits of Badminton
Badminton has something good to
offer to players, old and young alike, of both sexes. You remember the word
“Alert” everytime you play the game. You have to always be on your guard, not
losing sight of the ball while in play. The game trains players to be alert,
offers exercise in moderation for muscular development and coordination. The
continuous reaching and looking upward is of great value in the correction of
postural defects, especially round shoulders and flat chest.
Benefits of Sepak Takraw
1. Participants develop ‘EYE-FOOT
COORDINATION’, as well as increase flexibility, agility, balance and leg strength
... enhancing quality of life by keeping active and fit;
2.
Sepak Takraw is the perfect SOCCER
CROSS-TRAINING activity, and though kids right from6 years old can benefit, often
it is taught from grades 5 and up ... using a wealth of professional
INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES;
3.
Sepak Takraw can be played as a SOLO
ACTIVITY (one person ‘juggling’ a Takraw ball, or practicing ‘Kicking Challenges’),
a GROUP ACTIVITY (several people standing in a circle keeping a Takraw ball in
the air without using hands or arms ... much like foot bag), or a TEAM SPORT (3
on 3 on either side of a net in a badminton court);
4.
The Solo, Group or Team Sport activities
can also be played INDOORS or OUTDOORS ... the portable Sepak Takraw courts and
game sets that are available can be set up in 5 minutes, and are perfect for
Outdoor P.E., Summer Camps, YMCA, etc., - the UNIQUE HAND-WOVEN BALL
(air-filled balls are too bouncy, hard to control) will get lots of attention;
5.
As a Team Sport, Sepak Takraw is
played on a badminton court with the same 5-foot high net and court dimensions,
so most schools already have the major equipment needed, making it a very
INEXPENSIVE (just add balls and resources);
6.
Teams are made up of only a minimum
of THREE players (tournament travel all in one vehicle),ideal for smaller
schools – and for gear, players just wear shorts, T-shirts or jerseys and
sneakers ... again, a very INEXPENSIVE SPORT!
Boxing is a unique sport in that
it doesn’t discriminate based on size or strength. Instead, success in the ring
often coincides with how hard you train. It certainly helps to have some
athletic ability, but even an amazing athlete will struggle to win matches
without a disciplined training regimen. This sense of accountability helps
develop the following personal attributes:
Self-confidence: Boxing tests your
physical and mental limitations. You develop a sense of self-assurance as you
overcome obstacles that seem insurmountable.
Work ethic: It takes discipline to wake up for early morning runs, diet
to make a desired weight, and make it to the gym each evening for sparring.
Most successful individuals make sacrifices to reach their goals, and boxing
calls for these characteristics more than any other sport.
Sportsmanship: Competitive boxers tend to respect one another immensely
due to the demanding requirements of the sport. It’s not uncommon for boxers to
embrace following a hard-fought bout. Some people simply don’t have the courage
to step through the ropes. Those who make the effort deserve respect from
fellow competitors as well as fellow boxers in one’s own gym.
Self-defense: You build self-confidence as you learn how to
defend yourself. Not all athletes want to enter the competitive aspect of the
sport, which is fine. Anyone who puts time and effort in the gym, though,
learns the necessary skills to stay safe in hand-to-hand combat.
1.
Focus eyes on the game
2.
Avoid violating any rule
3.
Avoid being jittery and careless in movement.
4.
Be in good mental and emotional condition.
5.
Keeps your cool while playing.
6.
If you lose, be congenial.
7.
If you win, be courteous and avoid bragging.
